Alexander the Great conquered Anatolia by 334 BC causing two great civilizations, the Greeks and the Anatolians, to meet and mix for the first time. St. John transformed Ephesus into the religious centre of Western Anatolia.

The small house which is found in the hills of Ephesus is believed to be where the Virgin Mary spent her final days. It has been dedicated by the Roman Catholic Church as a holy destination. Artemis Temple, being one of the Seven Wonders of the World is also in this area and is only a few kilometers from Ephesus.
