Day 1: Arrive at Istanbul Airport, meet your personal guide, and fly to Erzurum in eastern Turkey. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy some time to relax. Overnight in Erzurum.
Day 2: Today we explore Erzurum, one of the most fascinating and historic cities in eastern Turkey. We will visit the impressive Seljuk madrasah and other important historical sites. Before returning to the hotel, we will visit the beautiful Muradiye Waterfall. Overnight in Erzurum.
Day 3: We leave Erzurum and follow the route of the Old Silk Road toward Kars. Near Turkey’s eastern border, we will visit the spectacular ancient city of Ani, once the capital of the Armenian Kingdom. We will explore this remarkable open-air archaeological site and its museum. After lunch in Kars, we will visit the Church of the Twelve Apostles, which is now used as a mosque. We then continue along the border toward Dogubayazit, where we will spend the night near the legendary Mount Ararat. Overnight in Dogubayazit.
Day 4: After breakfast, we visit the famous Ishak Pasha Palace, a magnificent Ottoman-era palace built high in the mountains. After crossing the volcanic landscapes of eastern Turkey, we arrive in Van, home to Turkey’s largest lake. After lunch, we take a boat across Lake Van to Akdamar Island, where we visit the beautiful historic church and enjoy the scenery of the lake. Overnight in Van.
Day 5: Today we continue exploring the Van region. We begin with Hosap Castle and then visit Cavustepe, an impressive archaeological site and an almost 3,000-year-old settlement of the Urartu civilization. After lunch, we visit Van Castle and the ancient royal tombs of the Urartu kings. We will also have a chance to discover traditional handicrafts and carpet weaving, a cultural tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Day 6: Today we travel toward the mysterious and historic city of Mardin. Along the way, we stop at the ancient city of Hasankeyf, located on the banks of the Tigris River. This fascinating ancient settlement is known for its caves, ruins, and dramatic landscape. We then continue to Mardin, one of the most unique cities in southeastern Turkey. Overnight in Mardin.
Day 7: We begin the day with a visit to Midyat, famous for its beautiful stone houses, historic streets, and traditional architecture. After lunch, we continue to Mardin, one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the region. We will visit a historic Syriac Orthodox church and learn about the ancient Christian communities of Mesopotamia. You will also have the opportunity to hear parts of the Bible in Syriac, the ancient language traditionally associated with the region of Jesus Christ. Overnight in Mardin.
Day 8: Today we enter the heart of Mesopotamia. Our first stop is the impressive Malabadi Bridge, built across the Batman River. After lunch, we explore the historic streets of Diyarbakir and visit the Great Mosque. We will also see the famous city walls, among the longest and best-preserved ancient defensive walls in the world. Later, we continue to Sanliurfa. Overnight in Sanliurfa.
Day 9: Today we visit the biblical city of Harran, famous for its traditional beehive-shaped houses and ancient history. According to the Old Testament, Harran is associated with the story of Prophet Abraham and his family. We then return to Sanliurfa, known as the City of Prophets. Walking through the old city, we will visit sites connected with Prophet Abraham, explore the historic bazaar, and experience the traditional atmosphere of this fascinating city. Overnight in Sanliurfa.
Day 10: After breakfast, we travel to Mount Nemrut, one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in Turkey. At an altitude of around 2,000 meters, we will see the enormous stone statues of gods and kings built by King Antiochus I of Commagene. The dramatic mountain scenery and ancient statues make Nemrut one of the most unforgettable places on the tour. Overnight in Adiyaman.
Day 11: We leave Adiyaman and continue to Cappadocia, one of Turkey’s most famous natural and cultural wonders. We will visit Uchisar, Urgup, Avanos, and Zelve, discovering the unique fairy chimneys, valleys, and rock formations of Cappadocia. After dinner, we will enjoy a Whirling Dervishes performance, a traditional ceremony representing the spiritual tradition of Sufism. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 12: Before breakfast, you will have the option to take a hot-air balloon ride over Cappadocia and enjoy breathtaking views of its unique landscape. Later, we explore the dreamlike scenery of Cappadocia, including the Goreme Open-Air Museum, ancient monasteries, and rock-cut churches decorated with beautiful frescoes. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 13: Transfer to the airport for your flight home via Istanbul.
